This magazine is focused on improving farming finances through cost cutting and revenue raising ideas. These are contributed by farmers and managers, not farm supply companies or major agri corporations. In fact the magazine is produced totally independently, with no advertisers or sponsors, and has been from the first issue in April 1992.

Projects vary from small ideas such as fitting a camera inside a combine to see, on a screen in the cab, how full it is while in work. Among the 5,000+ projects written up over the years are big projects such as a unique milking parlour which is rapid entrance as well as exit and we have featured home designed and built No-till drills and many smaller ideas.

There’s a Financial Focus in every issue - budgeting; tax issues; farm performance figures. Mike Donovan, founder editor, studied Agric Econ at Reading and went on to work at first the Economist Intelligence Unit and then the Financial Times before opting for life on his own dairy farm.

The Farm Walk is another section which looks at extraordinary farmers who do it differently, be it crops or livestock.

Mike believes there is a path to success for very many of the farmers who today are finding things difficult - often made harder by a lack of management numbers. He is a well-known and admired speaker.
