Fall in New England! We’ll tell you where to find the tastiest cider donuts and pick your own pumpkin. And while fall may mean seasonal foods and Thanksgiving to us, the men and women of Concord in the fall of 1774 had more on their minds. “The Revolution Before the Revolution” and “Concord on the Eve of War” will bring you a new outlook on fall. The summer of 1842 was an entirely different story, though. Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, Nathaniel Hawthorne, the Alcott family, Ellery Channing, and Margaret Fuller were all in town during “The Summer of Authors.” Explore Concord’s role both as a town with dozens of enslaved people and a community that included those dedicated to the abolition of slavery in “The Underground Railroad: Black Heroes at The Wayside.” These are just a few of the fascinating stories in this issue! Walking maps, trivia, and more – as always.
