NZ Performance Car #302 June-July 2023

Issue 302

There’s nothing we love more than a street car, here at NZ Performance Car. Yeah, race cars are cool, but there’s something special about something that’s road legal, with a WOF and reg you can drive to the bakery. This issue, we’ve got Paul Titheridge’s insane Nissan Silvia S15 road-legal circuit slayer that is powered by an SR20VET engine, and is clad in Garage Mak aero to complete what we think is one of New Zealand’s most insane Silvia streeters. The level of and attention to detail is second to none and we doubt we’ll see something like it again for some time! Suhail Sahib is back with yet another stinking street build after the unfortunate demise of his show-sweeping Datsun. This time, it’s a 450kW Toyota Mark II Tourer V that gets used and abused whenever there’s the chance to. To carry on the turbocharged theme, we’ve locked in Suresh Nadan’s absolutely mental B18C-swapped and turbocharged Daihatsu Charade Detomaso, which in our opinion is the ultimate game of charades. Aaron Mai is back with yet another epic overseas interview; this time with Hiroya Minowa who is probably the world’s youngest professional drifter, competing in Formula Drift Japan at only 13 years old. With Daigo Saito as his mentor, get used to hearing the name Hiroya in coming years! Danny Wood made his way to Taupo International Motorsport Park to cover the madness at REunion, which saw yet another insanely large turnout. Your Ed gets behind the wheel of Toyota’s latest machine — the GR Corolla — then hangs out with Honda New Zealand to drive their fleet of Honda heritage cars, including the stunning NA1 NSX. There’s a circuit-slaying Superlap FD3S RX-7, a bagged Volkswagen Tiguan, and so much more in NZPC 302 — enjoy!
